Hook Line and Music

The Writers Forum

Welcome to Writers Block

This is where writers find each other, start conversations, and build songs together.

How it works

  1. 1

List your name if you would like to collaborate.

  2. 2

Tell other writers who you are — what kind of songs you write, what you are looking for in a co-writer, and how you like to work.

  3. 3

Browse other writers, reach out, and start writing together.

We will also find and list local writing groups, and we will hold forums for writers to meet, share ideas, and collaborate.

Important — please read before you collaborate

Hook Line and Music provides a place for writers to connect. We do not verify the identity, credentials, experience, song ownership, or copyright status of any person who signs up to collaborate.

We strongly advise you to connect through local groups, and to take the following precautions:

  • Meet in public places for in-person collaboration, especially at first, and tell someone you trust where you are going.
  • Do not share your full unreleased songs, lyrics, demos, or recordings with strangers until you have protected your work.
  • Make sure your music is copyrighted / registered, and keep dated records of your work, before you share it widely.
  • Get a written collaboration agreement before you write, record, release, or pitch a song together. This should cover who wrote what, song ownership, publishing splits, and how royalties and other money will be shared. A simple split sheet is a good starting point — ask an entertainment attorney to review it.
  • Do not share personal, financial, banking, or password information with other members.
  • Be cautious of anyone who asks you to pay upfront fees to collaborate, record, or get your song heard. Do your own research before paying anyone.
  • We do not guarantee that a collaboration will lead to a recording, a publishing deal, payment, or any other result.
  • Hook Line and Music is not a party to any collaboration or agreement between members, and we are not responsible for any dispute, loss, misuse, theft, or non-payment that results from a connection made on this site.
  • If someone's behavior feels unsafe, dishonest, or suspicious, stop contact, save your messages, and report it to us.

This information is not legal advice. Before you sign any agreement, release a song, or share rights to your work, consult your own entertainment attorney.
